Proven Faith

I’m Andy Smith, Ambassador for Transform Work.

For 35 years I worked with Turbine technology for Rolls-Royce large civil aero engines.

There were a lot of Christians in the department and we joked that it took a lot of faith to design a component that was 5 centimeters long, spun at 12,000 RPM, carried the load equivalent to two double decker buses, produced the same power as an F1 racing car whilst operating in an environment 200 degrees hotter than its melting point whilst cooled by air as hot as a glowing coal on a barbeque.

But it is not faith as such. In 1675 Isaac Newton wrote “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants”. We also stood on the shoulders of giants supported by amazing design tools and finally proven engine testing.

The book of Hebrews reminds us we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses and there are many people in the bible who faced challenges similar to the ones we do today. These proved God’s faithfulness when going through testing times also.
